Hi Kelly, I too love Meetup. I first heard about it through the ATA German Language Division and tried to find a local German group. There wasn’t one, so I ended up starting one. I write off the organizing fee as advertising, because I have gotten several jobs from it. On the other hand, it has had an enormous effect on my social life. It gets me out of my little home-based office and out doing fun things several nights a week. I have met some wonderful friends through Meetup. Just last night I was out playing laser tag with a fitness group I started for out of shape couch potatoes (The Mind is Willing But the Flesh is Weak). I never thought to write about it in my blog though. I may have to do that! Thanks for inspiring me!

Hi Corinne! I have enjoyed reading your posts for the last couple of weeks since I entered the blogosphere.

A longer list of volunteer sources would be nice. I once saw a ProZ forum thread about it, but I don’t recall it getting much response.

Thanks for the the connection to Abigail Dahlberg. I am pretty sure I have come across her posts, so I will go take another look.

Hi Kelly, and thanks for this informative post, I need to follow up on some ideas for French to English. Do you know Abigail Dahlberg (ecotranslator.blogspot.com) who writes “The Greener Word”? The two of you could do some interesting writing about environmental translations!
